Penalty Shoot-Outs
Everton have had a pretty poor record in penalty shoot-outs, winning just 6 out of the 20 that they have contested over the years,
 the most heartbreaking loss being that against Fiorentina in the last 16 of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup after overturning a 2-0 first leg deficit.
The most thrilling of course was the 2008/09 FA Cup Semi-Final epic against Man Utd, with Phil Jagielka's winner making up for his miss against Fiorentina.

The first shoot-out we were involved in was the most famous, with 'keeper Andy Rankin proving to be the hero at Goodison against Borussia Moenchengladbach in the European Cup. This was, in fact, the first penalty shoot-out ever to take place in the European Cup, the rule having only been introduced by UEFA at the start of the 1970-71 season.

The very first shoot-out in Europe had come just over a month earlier, with the Hungarian team Honved defeating Scotland's Aberdeen
5-4 in the first round of the European Cup-Winners' Cup.

Goalkeeper Neville Southall scored in one of the shoot-outs, against Charlton in 1987 (unfortunately he only saved one and we lost!).

Our keeper Joel Robles also took a spot-kick in a shoot-out at West Ham in the FA Cup in 2015. His was our 10th penalty - he hit the bar and West Ham's goalkeeper Adrian scored the next kick to win the shoot-out 9-8 for the Hammers!
