Everton have appointed a club captain for every season that the club has existed - but, of course, a club captain doesn't necessarily get to play in every game. Injury, loss of form, international call-ups - these and many other reasons mean that the match captain will often be a player other than the club captain. Gathered here are lists of the Everton club captains for each season since we began playing first-class competitive fixtures in 1887/88 (see below) - together with a breakdown of the various match captains for every season and a table showing who has captained us in the most matches.
