The normal Football League had been suspended when World War II
broke out.
It was replaced with regional leagues - and in 1941/42 Everton played
in the Northern Division up until
Xmas and the League Championship after that.
The League Championship comprised all 51 teams who had competed
in the pre-Xmas Northern and
Southern Divisions.
Clubs did not all play the same number of games and positions were
decided on average points per game multiplied by 23, with only those
teams playing 18 or more games included in the final table.
Many of the games also doubled up as League War Cup qualifying competition
or knock-out ties.
Match, appearance and goal statistics are not counted in any official records.
